Project Background
Project Background
PetitionPilot is an online platform that helps individuals complete Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy forms without an attorney. It guides users through each form, saves their progress, generates court-ready PDF documents and emails the completed documents to their registered address after payment.
The client built the first version of the platform on Base44. Our developer fixed application issues, improved the workflows and built the complete PDF generation and email delivery system around it.

Business Needs

Business Needs
The client wanted to make bankruptcy form preparation more accessible for people filing Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Means test forms involve complex calculations where an error can lead to court rejection, so the platform focuses on supported forms with a simpler completion process. It needed:
- Guided completion of supported Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 forms
- Saved progress for each user
- Official PDF forms filled automatically from the user's answers
- Paid PDF generation and email delivery
- Fixes and improvements to the existing Base44 app without a rebuild

Project Challenges
- PDF field mapping: Official US bankruptcy forms include fillable and non-fillable PDFs. More than 15 forms needed their internal field names identified and mapped to user answers by hand in the Sejda PDF editor, because automated tools could not map every field reliably.
- External PDF processing: A separate FastAPI backend had to receive form data, fill the right templates, generate the documents and upload them to Google Drive.
- Workflow automation: Base44, Make.com, FastAPI, Google Drive and Gmail had to work together reliably for generation and delivery.
- Payment-gated delivery: Stripe controls access to the paid PDF generation and delivery feature.
- Existing platform: Bugs and workflows had to be fixed inside the client's Base44 app, and the new services connected, without rebuilding it.
