Project Background
Buzzline is a modern social drinking companion designed to help users make more informed decisions while enjoying a night out. The app combines drink tracking, estimated BAC monitoring, pacing guidance, hydration reminders, and social party features into one experience.
The goal was to create an experience that feels fun and social rather than clinical, while still giving users the information and safety tools they need to stay aware of their drinking.
The product includes solo session tracking, Party Mode, custom drink and cocktail creation, insights, emergency alerts, and a subscription model for advanced features such as party hosting and extended history.

Project Challenges
Making Safety Feel Social The biggest challenge was avoiding a medical or overly serious experience. Buzzline needed to communicate safety without making users feel judged or restricted.
Simplifying BAC & Pacing BAC estimation and pacing involve complex information, but users need to understand their current status instantly. The challenge was turning this information into simple visual indicators, statuses, and actionable guidance.
Designing Two Session States The Home experience needed to clearly distinguish between a pre-session state and an active session. Starting a session also activates the pacing system, drink tracking, BAC monitoring, and reminders, so the relationship between these features had to feel natural.
Creating a Social Party Experience Party Mode required different experiences for hosts and guests, including party creation, invite codes, participant monitoring, alerts, prompts, leaving and rejoining parties, and anonymity.
Supporting Custom Drinks Users don't always drink standard beer, wine, or spirits. The experience needed to support custom drinks and cocktails while keeping the creation process simple enough for quick use.
Strategy and Solutions
A Clear Session-Based Experience : Starting a session activates the pacing timer based on the user's selected goal, while drink logging continuously updates the session experience.
Visual BAC & Pacing Guidance : Instead of relying only on numbers, Buzzline uses clear status indicators and color zones to make BAC information easier to understand at a glance.
Safety Net with Alert a Friend : The Alert a Friend feature provides a quick safety action during a session. Users can configure an emergency contact and send an alert containing relevant session information and location when assistance is needed.
Insights & Personal Tracking : The Insights experience turns individual sessions into meaningful long-term information through:
- Session recaps
- BAC-over-time visualization
- Drink history
- Hydration tracking
- Weekly and monthly trends
- Streaks and achievements
This gives users a way to understand their drinking patterns beyond a single night.

Buzzline brings drinking awareness, pacing, and social interaction into one cohesive mobile experience.
The final UX creates a clear journey from starting a session to tracking drinks, managing pacing, staying hydrated, connecting with friends, and reviewing personal insights.
